Ultimately, our fears are what keep us from making changes in our lives. Looking at what we are afraid of helps us to get clear on whether or not the fears are worthy of holding us back.
Watch this short video for your next activity where you will take a look at what fears you have about making changes to your child’s education.
Take a few minutes to really allow yourself to feel into your fears surrounding homeschooling and record your thoughts.
Fears can be tricky to unpack. Many of our fears are embedded within or masked by other fears. Take time here to dig deep into what worries you. This will take quite a bit of honesty and vulnerability. Spend as much time as you need noticing what fears are coming up for you, related to the past (your child’s or yours), the present and the future.
Once your chart feels complete, watch the video below. I go over many common fears of homeschooling families. You are not alone.
Add any new insights from the video to your fears chart.
Let this process take the amount of time it needs to feel settled. Digging into our fears is difficult and often heavy work.
Spend some time digging into the “why” behind your top three fears. Setting a timer to do some journalling for 5-10 minutes might help you to access some of the underlying fears and emotions beneath the surface.
Here are some guiding questions for your journalling exercise:
- What do your fears want you to know?
- What is it that you love that your fears are trying to protect?
- Who are your fears protecting?
- What is beneath your fear? Does it live in the past, present or future?
Take some time to sit with your fears. Resist the urge to move on until you feel complete here.
