Pull factors are the things that seem desirable about another method of education. Just as there are things that are pushing you away from the current educational setting, there may be advantages of a new educational setting as well.
Watch this video for an explanation of a short (10 minute) activity that will get you thinking about what pull factors you have for homeschooling or another educational environment.
Take some time to develop your chart of pull factors.
Remember to keep your attention to this task short (about 10 minutes) but on task. If you think of things as the day goes on, record them on your chart.
When your list of pull factors feels complete, watch the video below for some insight from my experience homeschooling and teaching in the public education system. Feel free to add any new ideas that I share to your chart. The ideas I share may also ignite new ideas in you, write those down too.
After adding any additional ideas to your chart, take some time to review and categorize the ideas you have come up with in order to create a “Pull Factor Statement.”
Your Pull Factor Statement may be something like…
“Homeschooling will allow us the choice, flexibility and freedom to discover, follow and explore our children’s own interests.”
Create a short “Pull Factor Statement” that sums up what is desirable about alternative education and record it somewhere where you will be able to refer to it later.
